Horizon identification

چکیده

Soil classification has proceeded along the classical path of biological classifications but has not produced an internationally accepted system even though the WRB is supported by the IUSS. More recently Mazaheri et al. (1995a, 1995b) have tried to introduce Fuzzy logic into soil classification. They achieved a small amount of success when their technique was applied to selected soils in Australia but failed when applied to other soils. Like most classifiers before them, they applied their technique to whole soils. Since soils are extremely variable and do not show homology of their constituent horizons (FitzPatrick 1988) more attention should be given to identifying horizons and less effort in trying to produce a hierarchical system for whole soils.

Choosing the future horizon in closed-loop CCA-type Subspace Algorithms

The length of the future horizon is one of the principal “user choices” in subspace identification. It is well known that for the CCA algorithm the asymptotic variance decreases as the future horizon increases when input signals are white (or absent). There are also examples, when the input is not white, in which the asymptotic variance is minimized when the future horizon is equal to the syste...

Indication for unsmooth horizon induced by quantum gravity interaction

The angular ADM reduction of the BTZ spacetime yields a Liouvilletype theory. The analysis of the resulting Liouville theory naturally leads to identification of the stretched horizon. The dynamics associated with the stretched horizon has a feature that seems consistent with the unsmooth horizon; the quantum gravity effects are essential for the unsmoothness. We show that the “anomaly” term in...

Multiple-prediction-horizon recursive identification of hidden Markov models

This paper considers on-line identification of hidden Markov models via multiple-prediction-horizon recursive prediction error (RPE) methods. Working with multiple prediction horizons ensures that there is consistent parameter estimation, under appropriate excitation conditions. Simulation studies are included to illustrate the advantages of the proposed approach when compared to standard metho...

Reaction Wheel Parameter Identification and Control through Receding Horizon-Based Null Motion Excitation

A torque tracking and parameter identification scheme using a receding horizon optimization is developed for an over-actuated spacecraft Reaction Wheel Array (RWA). Additional actuator motion, constrained to the null-space of the array, is provided in order to enhance persistence of excitation. Therefore, the system parameters are learned without inducing large perturbations to the controllable...

Semi-receding horizon algorithm for "sufficiently exciting" MPC with adaptive search step

In this paper, the task of finding an algorithm providing sufficiently excited data within the MPC framework is tackled. Such algorithm is expected to take action only when the re-identification is needed and it shall be used as the “least costly” closed loop identification experiment for MPC. The already existing approach based on maximization of the smallest eigenvalue of the information matr...

Towards Flight Autonomy: Vision-Based Horizon Detection for Micro Air Vehicles

Recently, substantial progress has been made towards designing, building and test-flying remotely piloted Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs). This progress in overcoming the aerodynamic obstacles to flight at very small scales has, unfortunately, not been matched by similar progress in autonomous MAV flight. Thus, we propose a robust, vision-based horizon detection algorithm as the first step towards au...
